Eating Disorder Recovery Resources

These recovery resources are being reposted as we approach our quarterly family support group meeting.
Having an Eating Disorder can cause your whole life to turn upside down. It is important to set yourself up with a recovery team consisting of a Registered Dietitian, Therapist, Physician and a support network of family and friends. I have also found working with clients that it helps to share other real-life stories, videos, and articles to help motivate us and show we are not alone. Here are some of my favorite recovery resources.

Recovery Resources:

Some of my favs:
“Dr. Anita Johnston uses the metaphor of a log in a river from her book Eating in the Light of the Moon to describe the recovery process from disordered eating.”
“An extended version where Carolyn discusses each Key from her new book, 8 Keys to Recovery from an Eating Disorder written with her co-author, Gwen Grabb.”
Empowered Eating Blog
This is an awesome recovery blog with helpful tips, meals, success stories and more. I love the new addition, “From college girl to college girl” which provides insightful information for this age group.
Green Mountain Fox Run Facebook Page
A fellow ED professional turned me on to this page that is wonderful to look at for inspiration. They really focus on the non-diet approach and intuitive eating.

Body Image Resources:

More of my favs:
This video portrays American advertising of women. “Breaking down a staggering range of more than 160 print and television ads, Kilbourne uncovers a steady stream of sexist and misogynistic images and messages, laying bare a world of frighteningly thin women in positions of passivity, and a restrictive code of femininity that works to undermine girls and women in the real world.”
“Reginald Pike’s Yael Staav takes us from model to billboard in under 60 seconds in this impressive new spot from Dove.”
A powerful piece on where comparisons really come from and how harmful they can be during recovery.

Weight Bias Resources:

Even more of my favs:

“Jennifer Livingston, a local news anchor in La Crosse, Wisconsin, responded to a viewer’s outrageous attack on her appearance on Tuesday morning. Livingston recently received an email from a male viewer criticizing her weight.”
An inspiring letter from a daughter to a mother on teaching generations of women what really matters and how much of an influence a mother can have.
A touching story about living the moment and having confidence in your own skin.
Emphasis on the  word “healthy”,  RD Carlene Thomas shares real life tips on what brides should really focus on to feel their best on their wedding day.
