Recovery Lunch Box Cards
By Alex Raymond, RD, LD and Maya Jefferson
Back in October 2016, I went to the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo (FNCE), which is the largest gathering of dietitians each year. This was the first time I went to FNCE and I have to say I had an amazing experience. I learned so much from the lectures and had a great time meeting dietitians from across the country. Meeting these dietitians and learning about projects they were doing and ideas they had certainly inspired me!
One of my biggest inspirations from the conference was meeting Jodi Danen. She is the founder of Create Kids Club and had this amazing idea of creating “Lunch Box Cards” for kids, which she calls Lunch Bites. These cards are for parents to give to their kids at lunch time while they are in school. The cards have funny nutrition jokes, fun facts or an inspirational quote!
I was so inspired by this idea that I thought it would be a great idea to create “Recovery Cards” for our clients who are struggling with eating disorders. Mealtime can be especially difficult for these individuals. The idea behind these Recovery Lunch Box Cards is to add a little bit of inspiration! You can also use these cards at dinnertime with the family.
A HUGE thank you to student intern Maya Jefferson for helping to create these cards!! She put in a ton amount of hard work.
